ADR Plan - 03/09/2025

And just like that, a plan of action has been devised for tackling my ADR dilemma.

Firstly, the course is fully booked. To me this means it's popular.

What this actually means; nine or ten newly qualified ADR drivers in my local area will be competing for a limited number of jobs.

How do I overcome this?

Firstly, I won't sit on my arse scrolling job sites for openings. This is complacent behaviour; hoping the right one will land in front of me.

I therefore, must, put myself in front of managers even if they are not hiring.

I have a list of twenty local companies that specialise in the carriage of dangerous goods and/or run a fleet of tankers and I will visit them all.

My visit will follow a straight forward format and ideally shouldn't take me longer than 2-3 minutes to state why I am there.

Is that enough?

No!

I am aware I do not have Class 1 experience even though I have the privilege on my license; this could be a significant hindrance when up against other experienced Class 1 drivers.

I know tankers, where my interests lie, require a PDP.

How many budding tanker driving wannabees are not only going to take their ADR training but go the extra mile to get their PDP?

ADR training is plentiful and every man and his dog are offering the standard classes.

Very few providers, especially locally, are offering PDP theory and practical training.

This means, if I go somewhere, anywhere, that will offer me the additional training then I am showing my dedication and committment to some extent as well as initiative.

So even though I do not have Class 1 experience, a company may recognise my proactive approach and perhaps give me a break into that sector starting on their Class 2 vehicles on a probationary period then levelling up to their larger vehicles under supervision.

I mean, once I am in a good company, I can stick around for several years, and that's the current plan.
